What is the SOCCER MARROWTHON?

The Soccer Marrowthon is a 24 hour celebration of soccer that raises money and awareness for "Be The Match" Foundation.   Many of us are fortunate that our kids live healthy, active lives and can play soccer as often as they want.  As you know, not everyone is so fortunate.

The Soccer Marrowthon is an event that brings various players from clubs all over the Tristate to raise awareness and funding for the National Marrow Donor Program while they get to have fun playing the soccer game they love.  This event helps teach our kids the importance of giving back to those in need.    "Be The Match" supports patients with leukemias, lymphomas and blood disorders who’s only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant.

Event Highlights:

-Teams play soccer for 1 hour in the 24 hour period (specify time on registration form)

-All players receive an event tshirt

-Teams are welcome to set up a "friendly" with another team during the marrowthon  (please specify on registration form)

-Participating teams receive a training session by one of the many local professionals donating their team

-Fundraising for soccer team and Be The Match is optional (25% raised goes back to the soccer team)

-Donor Drive on site - simple swab of cheek, Become part of the worldwide donor bank, and perhaps be chosen one day to save a life.

-Spotlight games - Firefighters vs. Police, Special Olympics Top Soccer, semi pro Cincinnati Saints vs Indiana FC.

Be The Match helps patients receive the marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need. Every year, more than 10,000 patients are diagnosed with life-threatening diseases such as leukemia or lymphoma for which a marrow or cord blood transplant from an unrelated donor may be their best or only hope for a cure.

Most patients (about 70 percent) in need of a transplant do not have a matching donor in their family. They depend on the Be The Match Registry® to find an unrelated donor or cord blood unit.
