Classics Hammer FC is proud to announce that the Women’s Premier Soccer League is coming to Cincinnati in the Summer of 2010. Beginning in May 2010, CHFC will continue its long and proud history of developing players and providing them with every opportunity to play at every possible level through the WPSL.
What is the WPSL?
The WPSL is a 50-plus team national women’s soccer league with five conferences and is considered one of the top five leagues in the world. The league is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The WPSL’s mission is to provide the highest level of soccer in an effort to bring affordable and quality family entertainment to the community; display positive role models for our youth; all the while, being a stepping stone for aspiring players to Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS).
The WPSL seeks to have a great variety of teams from across the country that consists of college graduates and current college players as well as foreign and professional players coming back as amateurs to play for their home teams. Classics Hammer was chosen to be the Cincinnati representative and participate in the Midwest Region against teams from other premier clubs such as Ohio Premier (Columbus, OH), Carmel United SC (Indianapolis, IN), FC St. Louis (St. Louis, Mo.), and Chicago Eclipse.
Who can play in the WPSL?
Any player who has amateur playing status is eligible to play in the Women’s Premier Soccer League. A player is defined as amateur if they have not signed a professional contract nor do they receive and retain any payment for playing except expenses directly related to a game or games that have actually been incurred by the player (e.g. meals during team travel). In short, any current collegiate soccer players (NCAA I, II, III, NAIA) are eligible to play for a WPSL team. In addition, any former professional player no longer receiving payment for playing may participate. Visit www.wpsl.info for a more complete list of qualifying measures.
What is the cost to join a WPSL team?
In order to insure that our program is providing every opportunity we advertise, there is NO cost to any player who is able to make our 25-player roster. That is, except, for the cost that each player must incur to attend our daily training sessions at the Four Seasons Soccer Complex. CHFC has taken every measurable step to provide new uniforms, food during travel, accommodations for away trips and training (including strength and conditioning) so that each player can train, improve, compete, and have fun with as few worries as possible. Everything provided by the CHFC staff to its players is in accordance with WPSL and the NCAA.
Where will the team play and how long is the season?
As mandated by the WPSL, the season begins May 1st and runs through the summer until August 6, 2010. The amount of games each team plays depends upon the number of teams in each region. With the league still solidifying the participation of other teams in our region, we are currently looking at playing 12 games. The league does have National Championship for teams who perform well within their region during the regular season.
CHFC will play all games at Xavier University. We will train at the Four Seasons Soccer Complex on Kellogg Avenue. Plans are to begin training the week of Sunday, May 9th, 2010.
